Staff

Social Media Assistant

This virtual volunteer position will assist the Executive Director in regularly posting content to our social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube. You will have the opportunity to create original content as well as sharing Lyme Disease, chronic illness, and other related information from other sources to engage our followers and build our social media presence. 

We ask for a once a week commitment of approx 2 hours with the option of doing more. 

Skills needed:
– Experience with Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Microsoft Office, Canva, and Adobe
– Knowledgeable about graphic design and basic video creation and editing a plus
– Able to work independently and with a team
– Ability to research and identify new resources is a plus
– Great communication skills and understanding of confidentiality
– Familiarity with Lyme and tick-borne illness and the issues surrounding the disease

Online Events Video and Tech Support

This virtual volunteer position will assist with presentations and other online events by attending the event to assist with tech support and recording. This position is also responsible for editing and posting videos of presentations and events to the LDRC’s YouTube page in a timely manner. 

We ask for a once a month commitment with approx 4-6 hours of work. 

Skills needed:
– Knowledgeable about  Zoom, PowerPoint/Microsoft Office
– Experience with simple video editing and YouTube
– Able to work independently and with a team
– Great communication skills and understanding of confidentiality
– Familiarity with Lyme and tick-borne illness and the issues surrounding the disease

Research Assistant

This virtual volunteer position will support the Executive Director, Peer Counselors, and Support Group Facilitators in researching resources for clients. Research includes but is not limited to: treatment protocols, Lyme-Literate practitioners such as doctors and holistic therapists, treatment centers, articles, academic research, latest books, etc. 

Commitment is a minimum of 4 hours per month, flexible hours, resources must be submitted within 48 hours of receiving a request. Additional hours available. 

Skills needed:
– Experience conducting online research and utilizing research tools
– Knowledgeable about databases and confidentiality
– Able to work independently and with a team
– Must be familiar with Lyme and tick-borne illness and issues surrounding the disease

Marketing and Copywriting

This virtual volunteer position would work with the Executive Director and other volunteers in marketing the LDRC’s services, events, and education. Candidate(s) must be knowledgeable about Lyme Disease and tick-borne Illness, and willing to learn more. 

We ask for a commitment of at least 6 months of approximately 2 hours of work per week with the option of doing more. 

Skills needed:
– Experience with copywriting/editing, graphic design, and marketing
– Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
– Experience with Microsoft Office and Google products.
– Knowledge of social media, YouTube, and WordPress is a plus.
– Ability to work independently and with a team.
– Creative problem-solving.

Fundraising Assistant

This virtual volunteer position assists in fundraising events throughout the year. Tasks include assisting the Executive Director and event coordinator in logistics, publicity, and participation at events. Assisting in developing new fundraising events that are virtual or can be held in a safe environment for those with compromised immune systems. Participating on the fundraising committee of the Board of Directors is also welcome. 

We ask for a commitment of at least one year of service. Variable time requirements based on scope and duration of fundraising events and planning. Note: May is when we have our largest fundraiser so availability to assist is imperative for this month.

Volunteer Coordinator

The Volunteer Coordinator (can be a virtual position), assists the Executive Director with screening of volunteer prospects, assists in volunteer training and development, maintains the volunteer schedule, and manages volunteer opportunities. 

We ask for a commitment of at least one year of service.

– Familiarity with Lyme and tick-borne illness and the issues surrounding the disease
– Exhibit a high degree of ethics and integrity in dealing with personal data
– Professional with excellent organizational and communication skills
– Proficiency in Zoom, Microsoft applications, and Google products
– Experience in training volunteers is preferred but not required

Executive Assistant

This opportunity can be performed virtually, but the volunteer must be within commuting distance of Northampton, MA 01060. Anyone meeting in-person must follow LDRC policies. Masks are required for all indoor meetings. Volunteers or staff must reschedule if they have a cough, sore throat, fever or other signs of infection that might put others at risk.

This assistant position will support the Executive Director with company and client records, fundraising tasks, volunteer development, answering phone calls, keeping the office organized and running efficiently, gathering and sharing community resources. We ask for a commitment of at least one year.

– Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills

Counseling

Holistic Provider

Due to the pandemic, the Holistic Therapies program is running on a limited basis.

This volunteer position is part of our Holistic Therapies program, which provides holistic treatment as a free offering, available to our clients with tick-borne illnesses and their care partners. This may be a virtual offering or in-person at your location. Clients are limited to a single, free initial visit. Other discounts or offerings are at the discretion of the provider.
We ask for a commitment of at least one year.

Volunteer providers must be accredited and/or licensed and insured professionals in the field of holistic therapies such as massage, reiki, acupuncture, yoga, meditation, craniosacral therapy, somatic experiencing, nutrition, herbalism, etc.

Social Worker

This volunteer position would provide one-on-one counseling, by appointment, and/or act as a facilitator for support group sessions – Currently support groups are held virtually on Zoom. The schedule for private sessions is flexible. 

We ask for a commitment of at least one year with a minimum of 5 hours per month.

We are looking to work with MSW, LISW or LSW level professionals who are familiar with the issues surrounding hidden disabilities, Lyme, and the controversy of tick-borne illness. Additional training is provided upon request.

Skills needed:
– Must have experience helping patients with hidden disabilities, chronic illness and tick-borne illness
– Empathetic listener who motivates clients to take action
– Possess exceptional interpersonal communication skills
– Comfortable working with databases
– Familiarity with Zoom, Microsoft Office and Google products

Peer Counselor

The Peer Counselor (can be a virtual position) is responsible for conducting one-on-one support meetings, developing strategies and sharing resources for living well. Generating client information on LDRC intake forms. Conducting assessments and providing feedback to the client and/or the care partner/family. Ideal candidates will have commitment, savvy diplomatic skills, integrity, and a passion for improving the lives of people affected by Lyme and tick borne illness. A top-notch peer counselor should be able to easily identify warning signs in clients and provide effective interventions and emotional support. *Training Provided*

– Must have experienced some form of Tick-Borne Illness
– Empathetic listener who motivates clients to take action

Board of Directors Positions

Board of Directors – General
Service on LDRC’s board of directors is without remuneration, except for administrative support, in relation to board members’ duties.

Duties:
– Provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance
– Serve on committees or task forces for special assignments
– Act as an ambassador for the organization Partner with the Executive Director and other board members to ensure that board resolutions are carried out
– Contribute annually on a level commensurate with financial capacity
– Commit to a two-year term on the Board

Qualifications: 
– Commitment to and understanding of the LDRC’s beneficiaries
– Savvy diplomatic skills with a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and facilitating a consensus among diverse individuals
– Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of the LDRC’s beneficiaries
– Professional experience with executive leadership and accomplishments in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector

Board of Directors – Secretary (Assistant Secretary)

Duties:
Attend all board meetings
Serve on the executive committee if one exists Ensure the safety and accuracy of all board records
Review board minutes
Assume responsibilities of the chair in the absence of the board chair, chair-elect, and vice chair (Assistant to assume Secretary’s duties in the absence of the Secretary)
Provide notice of meetings of the board and/or of a committee when such notice is required
Assistant Secretary to assist Secretary in carrying out all duties

Qualifications:

Member of the BOD Organized Proficient in Microsoft Word, Google

Board of Directors – Treasurer (Assistant Treasurer)

Duties:
– Attend all board meetings
– Maintain knowledge of the organization and personal commitment to its goals and objectives
– Serve as the chair of the finance committee
– Manage, with the finance committee, the board’s review of and action related to the board’s financial responsibilities
– Work with the chief executive and the chief financial officer to ensure that appropriate financial reports are made available to the board on a timely basis
– Present the annual budget to the board for approval
– Review the annual audit and answer board members’ questions about the audit

Qualifications:
– Member of the BOD
– Understand financial accounting for nonprofit organizations
– Proficient in QuickBooks, Microsoft Word, Google

Board of Directors – President (Vice President)

Duties:
– Oversee board and executive committee meetings
– Work in partnership with the Executive Director to make sure board resolutions are carried out
– Appoint all committee chairs, and with the Executive Director, recommends who will serve on committees
– Prepare agenda for board meetings, call special meetings if necessary
– Assist in conducting new board member orientation
– Oversee searches for a new Executive Director
– Coordinate Executive Director’s annual performance evaluation
– Work with the governance committee to recruit new board members
– Act as an alternate spokesperson for the organization
– Periodically consult with board members on their roles and helps them assess their performance

Qualifications:
– Extensive professional experience with significant executive leadership accomplishments in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector
– Demonstrated success as a nonprofit board member or board chair
– Track record of building credibility in the funding community that has resulted in major gifts to a nonprofit
– Savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals
